The Corrales Historical Society is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to
preservation and maintenance of the old San Ysidro Church and to promoting
understanding and appreciation of Corrales history. The Society was formed in the
1970s in response to growing concern over the condition and future of the old church;
our initial task was to ensure its preservation and management. and it is now a fully
usable facility that keeps its historic appearance and materials. We continue to maintain
the church and its annex. From this grew an organization that sponsors several events at the
old church, including the annual mudding weekend in early May, Heritage Day, Mercado Antiguo,
art shows, speakers, and exhibits.
The Society rents the facility for weddings, art shows, and meetings, and the church is used for
Village government meetings, and the concert series sponsored by Music in Corrales. CHS now
has over 300 members, who all come together at our annual dinner in February. The Society publishes a
quarterly newsletter and an annual report.
Volunteer opportunities with CHS include researching local history, preparing exhibits,
interviewing long time residents, helping to maintain the old church, serving as a docent, and
assisting with the speaker series or with field trips.
