Historical Society was founded in 1974 as a non-profit organization
that could care for and manage Corrales' century-old San Ysidro Church
after the parish moved to a new larger building. For many years CHS
concentrated on the restoration of the church, ensuring that its
essential historic features were kept while its usefulness as a
community resource was enhanced. This task is now completed, although
maintenance is on-going. The Society also promotes greater appreciation
and better understanding of the history and traditions of the community
of Corrales, a centuries-old agricultural village just north of
Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In the following pages you will find information on our
various activities directed toward these ends. We invite you to learn
about the history of our village and of the old church and to join us
in our efforts. If you do, you will enjoy the company of like-minded
people and have the satisfaction of knowing that your volunteer work
contributes to preserving the culture and history of this unique
Many of your activities take place at the Historic Old San Ysidro Church, 966 Old Church Road in Corrales. MAP

The bronze plaque shown below lists the names of the persons buried beneath the church floor and was dedicated on Heritage Day, May 2011. It was funded by descendants of Antonio José Santiago Gonzales, a long-time Corrales farmer in the 19th century. Gonzales' grandson Hector Gonzales and Hector's sister Jane Darnell, and Jane's son Randy spearheaded this effort. The family gave the plaque both to make this information available to the public and to celebrate their descent from Corrales founder Juan Gonzales Bas. Many family members attended the installation, several from California. The Society was delighted to receive this generous gift that furthers understanding and appreciation of the Village's long history.
